Forming Christians- Children & Youth
Reverend Peggy E. Schnack
Associate Rector for Children & Youth
Our children and youth formation programs are designed to give our younger members an opportunity to explore their faith in a context that makes sense to them. It is my intention that all who attend our formation classes feel like they are a part of a group where they can be themselves, explore, and grow in their faith.
Youth group meets from 9:00-9:27 (getting out in time to join in the 9:30 Family Eucharist) upstairs in the high school room. It is for middle and high school students. We are using the Way of Love, meditations by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, and the book, My Faith My Life. We also have a variety of outings that have recently included bowling and apple picking.
The elementary class meets after the 9:30 Family Eucharist, 10:25-11:00 in the Eagles room upstairs. It is for six to ten-year-olds and we are using the Weaving God’s Promises curriculum. This curriculum gets the kids into the Bible in age-appropriate ways and helps them to relate what they are learning to their own lives.
Our pre-k class meets after the 9:30 Family Eucharist, 10:25-11:00, in the Lions room on the first floor. It is designed for kids who are ready for something with a little more substance and structure than the nursery offers, generally four and five-year-olds. We are using the Wee-Wonder curriculum, which teaches with stories, songs, activities, and stick puppets.
Our nursery is for children up to three years of age. Parts of the Wee Wonder curriculum (also used in Pre-K) will be used as appropriate. The nursery is open and staffed during the 10:30 Eucharist.
Pre-k through youth classes do not meet on the first Sunday of each month because all-parish worship, “First Sundays Life Together” is at 9:30 am.
